“The multimedia edition of Long Day’s Journey Into Night is thrilling: one finds at one’s fingertips not just the script, but also vivid and voluminous dramaturgical support, featuring criticism, cultural context, and ephemera, complemented by video of rehearsal and performance and, wondrously, audio of Eugene O'Neill reading his own words—I will never think of this play in the same way again. How fitting that one of the greatest of all American plays should give rise to this brilliant and generous work, which sets an entirely new standard for publishing in drama.”—James Bundy, Dean, Yale School of Drama, and Artistic Director, Yale Repertory Theatre

“Brilliantly dissolving the divide between text and performance, William Davies King's multimedia Long Day’s Journey Into Night brings together an array of video clips and photographs with expertly assembled background materials to make this edition of O’Neill’s masterpiece the perfect one for our digital age.”—Jackson R. Bryer, co-editor, The Selected Letters of Eugene O’Neill

“Thanks to the expert navigation of William Davies King, the greatest tragedy ever written by an American has at long last landed safe and sound in our digital world.”—Robert M. Dowling, author of Eugene O'Neill: A Life in Four Acts

“This edition draws the reader into O’Neill’s masterpiece in ways that the playwright never could have imagined. If he had, he might have stipulated that the play not be published until 63 years after his death, rather than twenty-five. The act of reading is transformed into an entirely new and distinctively engaging twenty-first-century experience that offers the joys of simultaneously reading, viewing, and exploring a work of dramatic literature. The delights of this new edition are many and will appeal to a broad audience with different purposes in reading the play.”—Steven F. Bloom, author of Student Companion to Eugene O’Neill and editor of Critical Insights: Eugene O’Neill

“A digital bookshelf treasure trove, this wonderful new multimedia edition of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night is an indispensable resource for theatre artists, scholars, O’Neill enthusiasts, and anyone else curious about the origins and evolution of this quintessentially American masterwork.  The edition’s user-friendly format couples close study of the full text of the play with easy access to rehearsal, performance and biographical videos; analytic and bibliographic materials; period photos; production notes; and audio-recordings of the playwright himself reading from the text.  The result is an intimate and richly rewarding exploration of O’Neill’s greatest play.”—Robert Falls, Artistic Director, Goodman Theatre
