Welcome to our weekly roundup of news from university presses! Once again, there is a lot to share this week from our fellow academic publishing houses and much to learn on What SUP at the social university presses. This week, we found celebrated National Cat Day, found book deals and discussed society’s ideals of beauty.

Temple University Press posted a piece by Trimiko Melancon author of Unbought and Unbossed: Transgressive Black Women, Sexuality, and Representation where she discusses the present context of gender, race and sexuality.

Duke University Press is calling for essays and papers on the topic: Reconsidering Gender, Violence and the Stage for their Radical History Review to be published Fall 2016.

University Press of Florida enjoyed the festivities of the Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading. Did you miss it? Don’t worry, they are offering many discounts in their virtual booth!

Stanford University Press celebrated National cat day by thanking their “SUPcats”, the members of the press team that work behind the scenes such as layout and editing teams. We loved the cat memes!

Columbia University Press is giving away a free copy of their featured book, Losing Tim: How Our Health and Education Systems Failed My Son with Schizophrenia.

University of North Carolina Press shared a post by Lisa Wilson, author of A History of Stepfamilies in Early America where she explains how today’s media portrays stepfamilies as the new “normal”.

Indiana University Press educated us about the Battle of Surigao Strait by sharing an excerpt from their book to mark the 70th anniversary of the battle.

NYU Press challenged the conventional idea of beauty by sharing a post that addresses the high premium today’s society places on the materialistic and narrow physical dimensions of beauty.

Wesleyan Press wished readers a Happy Halloween, Happy Samhain (an ancient Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season) and celebrated the birthday of popular poet Annie Finch!

Princeton University Press announced the publication of a new edition of the book Alan Turing: The Enigma, inspiration for the new movie The Imitation Game. They are also giving away a copy of the new edition book and a $25 Fandango gift certificate!
