Yale University Press receives Mellon grant for art and architecture e-portal

Yale University Press is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a major grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to establish a new electronic portal on which curated and customizable art and architectural history content will be made available to consumers and institutions. In this groundbreaking endeavor, we will be joined by the Art Institute of Chicago, one of our exclusive museum publishing partners.for mellon blog

A selection of award-winning and critically acclaimed backlist titles will be digitized and made available on the portal; the Press also aims to secure rights for the books’ illustrations and, where merited, to update and/or enhance the illustration program with new photography.

Patricia Fidler, Publisher, Art & Architecture says: “We are grateful to the Mellon Foundation for the opportunity to begin building an authoritative portal through which individuals and institutions can easily access key content in the fields of art and architectural history. It is an exciting prospect, and we are so pleased to have the AIC as a partner going forward. The AIC has excelled in its work on the Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative (OSCI) and will be invaluable in helping us navigate the multiple challenges of the project.”

The beta will be launched in early 2017, and the project’s long-term goal is for other museum and art book publishers to bring core content to the site.
