Among his many correspondents we find such prominent statesmen, artists, and scientists of his day as George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, John Singleton Copley, Benjamin West, Gilbert Stuart, David Rittenhouse, and Georges Cuvier. Peale’s children emulated their father in their artistic and scientific interests, and several achieved prominence in their own right.
